Hey, Budda heads, getting on at The Hook studios with the Exxies project that is way phat! The guys have been laying tracks with the proto 80 and it truly is an amazing amp! Today's tip is micing techniques. Here are a couple of my favorite setups. For the big rock sound, try this: Put 2 SM57s on the same part of the cone, 1-1/2" off the paper. Place the inner one straight on and the other 45 degrees off axis. The inner will have lots of honk and the outer will take some of the top off. Blend 'till your ears feel right. For the 1x12 combo guy, place one 57 1 1/2" off the front of the cone and one exactly opposite on the back, with the phase reversed. Now detune and rock! See ya on the road or in the studio! There comes a time when you have to bring out the big guns. Where big bottle bombasity makes like Butch Cassidy and the Tubedance Kid! To get your point across and leave your fellow guitarists words at a loss, the Superdrive 80 is the new boss. There is pure Zen magic when plugging into this no-holds-barred, over-the-top, high gain tone manifesto. Dialed to perfection and plotted with precision, the Superdrive 80 is our contender for the hi gain arena crowd. Four 6L6 power tubes and a solid state rectifier push the dual channel 80 watts into the Buddasphere. This is the amp you've been waiting for if you need to move air behind a full or half stack. Loads of headroom for beyond the bedroom! The solid state rectifier provides a tight and articulate bottom that is focused on a quick attack time. Great for double-picking bass lines and double stops. Jeff dialed in the 80 so that it has the dynamics of a 5u4 rectifier, but without the elasticity you get with tube rectification. We wanted "in your face without the space" notes to hit you as soon as your pick hit your string. The thrust of the 80 watts at the time of pick attack has an approximate G-force of 10! Picture the Maxell tape guy with his lips wrapped around his ears! The preamp section is dedicated to hit the power tubes hard, so that your notes remain turgid even with your guitar's volume pot rolled off to "1." For those players who like to use power steering (guitar volume pot adjustment) to control their volume and gain, this is a superior machine. Works with any pickup impedance so that you are in constant command of your signature tone. Single coils, P-90s, buckers and lipsticks all have their own personality which makes it more attractive to use a Budda to bring out their true characteristics. We worked hard on designing a new tone palate that is setting the standard in our industry, and our Superdrive 80 is a culmination of our many years of fine tuning. Currently in the studio with new Melisma Recording artists, The Exxies, the prototype Superdrive 80 is getting a workout at Rumbo Recorders and The Hook. Basics are being cut and the word out is that this amp sticks in the mix for the multiple Bics. Comin' to a big stage near you! We are taking orders for fall delivery, so make way to your dealer for a demo, or contact us direct if you don't have a stocking store in your city. Scot & Jeff - Buddaguys |
